The American Academy of Pediatrics Special Achievement Award was presented to Jane Turner, MD, FAAP, Michigan Chapter for distinguished service and dedication to the mission and goals of the academy for her work on establishing high quality medical homes for all the children of Michigan, including children with special health care needs, by working with the chapter, State of Michigan, and other important stakeholders. Dr. Turner is a professor in the Michigan State University Department of Pediatrics and Human Development.
A Special Achievement Award was also presented to George Baker, MD, FAAP, Michigan Chapter for distinguished service and dedication to the mission and goals of the academy for his tireless advocacy efforts on behalf of children's health issues and pediatricians, working with the Michigan Department of Community Health/Medical Division, Children's Special Health Care Services and developing a positive cooperative relationship between the Michigan Department of Community Health and the Michigan Chapter.
The awards were presented at the September 24, 2010, meeting of the AAP Michigan Chapter.
