Human Genetics

MSU Human Genetics logoThe Department of Pediatrics and Human Development has a three pronged Human Genetics Program consisting of three diagnostic clinical laboratories, an inpatient and outpatient clinical consultative program and solid basic science research. The laboratory components of the MSU Human Genetics Program, a division of the Department of Pediatrics and Human Development, are located in the Life Sciences Building on the campus of Michigan State University. Outpatient evaluations occur at the Sparrow Professional Building; inpatient consultations are performed at Sparrow Hospital.

Lab technician conducting a blood testThe clinical program consists of three service laboratories: DNA Diagnostics, Cytogenetics and Prenatal Screening as well as a comprehensive clinical program staffed by genetics counselors and clinical geneticists. The MSU Human Genetics Program has provided services in the local community, throughout the state of Michigan and across the nation since 1969. The division has built its reputation on providing the highest level of customer service and patient care. We offer expert interpretation of test results, immediate telephone reporting of abnormal test results and consultative services with board certified genetic counselors, clinicians and laboratory directors. The basic scientists consist of PhD geneticists who conduct a variety of research ranging from adult stem cell research to the genetics of hearing loss.
