    • Pediatric Residency Program: The Michigan State University Pediatric Residency is a University-sponsored primary-care-oriented program offering comprehensive training in general pediatrics in a setting which represents a unique synthesis of academic and community teaching environments. As part of a cooperative effort between the MSU Colleges of Human Medicine and Osteopathic Medicine and Lansing’s Sparrow Hospital, our program combines the strengths of these institutions to offer state-of-the-art training in pediatrics.

    • Neonatology Fellowship: The Michigan State University Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship is a three-year program accredited by ACGME. Clinical experience is provided at Sparrow Hospital, and research opportunities are available on both the Michigan State University campus and at Sparrow Hospital.
    • NIH Sponsored Perinatal Epidemology Program: An NICHD-supported T-32 training program in perinatal epidemiology in the Department of Epidemiology in Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine is seeking highly motivated U.S. citizens/permanent residents who would like to obtain either pre-doctoral or post-doctoral research experience and training in the causes and prevention of pregnancy, newborn and infant disorders, and the relationship of pre- and perinatal phenomena to later human health.
    • Pediatric Clerkship: The required Pediatric Clerkship is an eight-week experience comprised of inpatient, ambulatory, community experiences, and nursery rotation coordinated by a full-time clerkship director in each community. The clerkships across communities share common goals and objectives. Clerkship directors meet bi-monthly to discuss curricular issues and student performance, and to share educational material.

    • Heavenrich Lectureship: The Robert M. Heavenrich, MD, Endowed Lectureship in Pediatrics is one of the department’s most important contributions to the land grant and public service missions of Michigan State University. The annual Lectureship provides a high quality, locally accessible source of continuing education credit for community pediatricians, and an opportunity for interested individuals to meet and interact with leading pediatricians on a personal level.
      • About Dr. Heavenrich: Dr. Robert Heavenrich was held in such high regard by his patients, the Saginaw medical and business communities, and the MSU faculty that they wanted to recognize this exceptional man. His humility prohibited him from exploring all but one form of recognition; an annual lecture dedicated to addressing the special and unique needs of children with chronic illness.
      • Heavenrich Lecturers: The Robert M. Heavenrich, MD, Endowed Lecture in Pediatrics has been presented annually since 1992 by a wide range of notable scholars in pediatric medicine.

      • Clinical Genetics: The Michigan State University Division of Human Genetics offers a wide range of clinical genetic services. The genetics clinic provides services for individuals in mid-Michigan communities every week at the Sparrow Professional Building in Lansing.       • Laboratory Services: Michigan State University Division of Human Genetics laboratory services include a Clinical Cytogenetics Laboratory, DNA Diagnostic Program, and a Prenatal Screening Laboratory
      • Test Menu: The clinical program consists of three service laboratories: DNA Diagnostics, Cytogenetics and Prenatal Screening. We offer expert interpretation of test results, immediate telephone reporting of abnormal test results and consultative services with board certified genetic counselors, clinicians and laboratory directors.

    • Neonatology: The Division of Neonatology at Michigan State University School of Medicine is a major regional academic center for clinical and research training. Clinical training is offered in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Sparrow Hospital, which is the State-designated regional referral center for Mid-Michigan.
    • Pediatric & Adolescent Hematology-Oncology: The MSU Division of Pediatric and Adolescent Hematology and Oncology provides the following major programs: pediatric and adolescent cancers, bleeding and clotting disorders, sickle cell disease, anemias and white cell disorders, and histiocytic disorders. We have a very active multidisciplinary program taking care of children and adolescents with all types of leukemia, brain tumors, neuroblastoma, Wilms Tumor, germ cell tumors, soft tissue sarcomas and bone tumors from Mid-Michigan area.
      • Clinical Services: Our pediatric hematology/oncology clinics are located at the Sparrow Professional Building in Lansing, Michigan. Additionally, physicians provide inpatient services at Sparrow Regional Children’s Center. The Bleeding and Clotting Disorder Clinic is located at the MSU Clinical Center. An outreach clinic, serving the entire upper peninsula of Michigan, is based at Marquette General Hospital and occurs approximately once per month.
