A Word from the Associate Chair for Research
The College of Human Medicine Department of Pediatrics and Human Development is a clinical department that maintains a highly visible research program which spans from basic science to the translation of research into the clinic. Our department has MD, MD/PhD, and PhD scientists in both tenure line- and clinical faculty appointments. We have multiple research programs with emphasis in neuroscience/autism, pediatric oncology, rare genetic disorders, cystic fibrosis, neonatology and multi-omics/AI-driven drug discovery. The activities of our researchers and physician scientists have long been supported by a wide range of funding sources including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), National Science Foundation (NSF), American Cancer Society (ACS) as well as a plethora of other support from private funding organizations and pharmaceutical companies.
College of Human Medicine Medical Doctor (MD) students who are interested in research can also participate in laboratory/wet laboratory or computational/dry laboratory research rotations under the direction of department faculty. Our faculty also train PhD graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and clinical fellows.
Our research activities are primarily performed at the Grand Rapids Research Center (GRRC) and the Doug Meijer Medical Innovation Building (DMMIB) in Grand Rapids (https://innovationparkgr.msu.edu/grand-rapids-research-center/peds.html) and on our main MSU campus, in East Lansing.
